James 3:10-11
Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water come from the same spring? (NIV)
-- I think we can relate this to being slow to speak. Everyone has trouble holding their tongues. But applied directly to me, is another thing. Specifically to when I actually do speak, because we all know I don’t talk much. But when I do, it’s usually negative. And saying something negative to someone is like making them drink salt water. I’m mostly like this at home, when it’s just me and my siblings. What I think this verse means to me is: When speaking, first, think of what you’re about to say. Is it positive? If so, by all means say it. But if not, think of what salt water tastes like, then hold you’re tongue.

It's hard to speak well, to think first, to make sure that what you're about to say is something you want to say, what you mean to say. It's hard to remember to think first, but that little pause makes such a difference. I have a hard time remembering, but it's sort of comforting how the more you act on it when you remember, the more you remember. Words are so cool to me, written, spoken, or thought, they're just cool in general. :) And powerful. I love reading different people's thoughts on them - nice post, Max! :)

Thank you very SW! I was thinking about your post "Write Freely" and kept it in mind. This was actually something I wrote for Bible Study. Our youth pastor asks us to write "Homework." It's fun!
